Nice to meet you

"To photograph truthfully and effectively is to see beneath the surfaces and record the qualities of nature and humanity which live or are latent in all things."  — Ansel Adams

I'm a photographer working in Portland, Oregon. Trained as a painter and a photographer, I attended The University of Texas at Austin, Texas and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up across the US and abroad has been a major influence and provided many visual opportunities.

I've always been amazed by the intensely evocative potential in even the most modest moments. I look to myriad inspirations: from day-to-day life, to travel, to each unique person I work with. Outside of the studio, my images are mostly candid, be they quiet and intimate, or moments of frenetic energy.

I hope you enjoy the work, and thank you for looking.

Working together

"Jessica Acevedo is on a mission to find your beauty. A driven and meticulous artist, her photo shoots are as relaxing as an afternoon in the park with a friend, while she deploys all her tricks to craft the perfect image of you as you want to be seen." — Lisa Wagner, President, Xinnia LLC

"Jessica queried me before the shoot on what I was looking for and came up with very creative approaches and locations that worked out beautifully. I truly appreciate her attention to details and abilities. The feedback I got on my images was exceptionally positive." — Kip Silverman, Executive Director, Move Food

"Thank you, thank you, thank you for the fabulous photos for my upcoming novel and associated press materials! The shots really captured my personality—happy, saucy, solemn. Normally I hate getting my picture taken, but you helped me feel relaxed and perfectly at ease. And the pictures came out beautifully! I look like myself, but better. I can’t wait to finish the next book so we can do this all over again." — Tracy Manaster, Author, The Done Thing

"Jessica was a dream to work with. I wanted to showcase my various jewelry lines in a way that exhibited the piece's unique materials and my personality. Jessica saw my vision, waved her creative wand and crafted a series of beautiful photographs that perfectly capture my jewelry's character. I could not be happier with the diversity and quality."

"I hate getting my photo taken, they always turn out strained and unnatural. So when I needed an author photo, I was concerned. Jessica put me at ease almost instantly and now I have several excellent photos to choose from. I highly recommend Jessica Acevedo." —Tiffany Abrams, Author, The Book of Rice

"I loved working with Jessica. She had the shoot planned out ahead of time and gave excellent direction. I will definitely call on her in the future." —Mark Struzan, Graphic Designer

"I have worked with Jessica Acevedo on a professional basis since 2011 when she did the artwork for my debut CD Both Sides of the Story. She was able to take a very difficult piece of art that I created, photograph it, and then turn that into a whole concept piece that tied wonderfully across the album cover, lyric sheet, credits and the CDs themselves. The art really captured the spirit of the songs of this CD and I still receive compliments on the amazing artwork for this album. For my second album, Under the Covers, Jessica came up with 3 concepts for me to choose from. It was not at all what I originally had in mind, but I trusted her vision and we again ended up with an amazing concept of artwork that again complimented by music and brought my product to life. Jessica is an important part of my publicity team and is just a joy to work with and be associated with. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her!"
—Ragon Linde, Musician, Both Sides of the Story & Under The Covers

“I've hired Jessica over the years to provide professional photography for our company's website. Her wide range of photographic skills, from landscapes to portraits, capture just what is wanted without our even knowing what we are looking for. She is not only a phenomenal photographer but a great mind reader! It's always a pleasure to watch her work with our team to provide the results we need. She is a pro!”
